I hope all of your enjoyed your winter breaks and have caught up on rest and time with friends and family.

Winter Intersession at Carmen is in full swing which means the Spring semester is almost here for our seniors soon to be graduates like you. Here is what you need to be getting done in the month of January:

  • FAFSA: Seriously if you haven’t filed by now you are just giving away money.
  • Verification: If you already filed your FAFSA you may be hearing from your school that you need to submit some extra paper work like a “tax transcript” or “dependent verification worksheet.” If you’d like my help please set up a meeting ASAP.
  • Taxes: Very shortly you should be getting your 2017 W2s for you if your worked and your parents. Please remember, that taxes are DUE April 15th 2018. So that your Financial aid is not impacted by this next October, please do not wait until the due date and do not rush through your forms.

What is a 1098-T Form?

The 1098-E and 1098-T are two forms from the IRS dealing with educational expenses. The E is connected to student loan interest and the T is connected to your tuition. I am attaching the general instructions for the E/T forms for tax filing.

NOTE: If you file your own taxes you’ll include these forms with your taxes. If you do not file and are still claimed by your parents, make sure you give this form to them for their taxes.
