Carmen Supports Employees

Referral Bonuses + Stipends

Staff is eligible to earn up to $1,000 for referring a teacher. There is no limit on referral bonuses! Stipends are available for employees who go above and beyond their daily responsibilities as coaches, translators, extracurricular club organizers and more!

Professional Development

Our leaders are dedicated to developing your skills and supporting your goals. Carmen staff is continuously learning. Staff participate in weekly training with their campuses and quarterly cross-network collaboration. in the 2024-2025 year we launched the first cohort of our Leadership Development Program, led by Carmen's Managing Director of Culture and Leadership Pipeline Development.

    High School Social Studies-World Culture & AP Government and Politics

    Ms. Gonzalez challenges her students daily while believing in their ability to succeed and excel beyond systemic barriers. She is a stellar educator, expanding her impact by way of her own professional growth and development. She was awarded the 2024 Frederick Douglas-James Madison Fellowship-an honor given to only one educator of color in the country. Most recently, Gonzalez contributed to a federal curriculum project, organized by Digital Promise, OER Project, and University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education to develop deeper discussions in high school world history.

    8th Grade ELA Educator

    Ms. Taylor embodies our core value of growth both in her instruction and high expectations for students. She advocates for her students and pushes students to show what they are capable of daily. Our kids are lucky to have such an amazing literacy educator! Ms. Taylor brings so much joy to our Carmen Middle School South campus, preparing students for the next level in their school careers.

Is Carmen a Milwaukee Public School?

Carmen Schools of Science and Technology is a Milwaukee, Wisconsin network of non-instrumentality public charter schools (K-12) through Milwaukee Public Schools (Middle and High Schools) and UW- Milwaukee (elementary).

What is Carmen’s mission?

What does the employment application process look like at Carmen?

What does Carmen look for in an applicant?

Successful candidates possess a growth mindset, are creative, highly reflective, value feedback, and constantly seek to improve. Qualified applicants meet position needs and have a demonstrated history of success in previous work experience.

What if I do not have a teaching license, but I want to become a teacher. Is that possible?

Yes! Absolutely, there are various programs designed to help non-traditional educators achieve a teaching license (for example, Milwaukee Teacher Education Center and Teach for America). However, a Charter School Teacher license is also available to anyone with a bachelor’s degree and one of the following additional qualifications:

  • Transcript(s) documenting completion of a major or minor in the core subject(s); or,
  • Passing score(s) on Praxis II exam in the core subject(s)
