Carmen Southgate marks an exciting new chapter for Carmen Schools and Milwaukee’s South Side.
In fall 2026, the Carmen South and Carmen Southeast high school communities came together to begin a new journey as Carmen High School of Science & Technology Southgate—the home of the Phoenix.
For our students, Carmen Southgate isn’t just a new building. Our student and staff founders are creating a new school community grounded in the traditions, relationships, accomplishments, and pride that made both legacy campuses special.

Carmen Southgate represents a powerful new chapter for our students. This campus will be a space where our students deepen their academic journey, prepare for college and careers, and see their potential reflected in every classroom and community space.

Building on Our Legacy
Carmen Southgate represents an exciting new chapter in Carmen’s nearly 20-year legacy of serving Milwaukee students and families. What began with a groundbreaking in December 2025 became a reality in Fall 2026, when we officially opened the doors to our new South Side campus and welcomed students into their new home.
Bringing together the proud histories of Carmen South and Carmen Southeast, Southgate was built to carry forward the relationships, traditions, and commitment to educational excellence that have shaped both school communities. Today, our Phoenix are creating a legacy of their own in a space designed to support academic achievement, exploration, connection, and preparation for college, meaningful careers, and life.
Southgate is the next chapter of Carmen’s commitment to providing high-quality, equitable education for Milwaukee students.
Development Award Finalist: Carmen Southgate
Carmen Southgate sits on the property of the former Ascension Clinic at 20th and Oklahoma and has been selected as a finalist for the 2025 Commercial Association of Realtons Wisconsin (CARW) Deal of the Year Awards in the Development category. Other categories of recognition for the prestigious real estate award includes: Industrial, Investment, Office, and Retail.

Dean of STEAM Access and Innovation
The Dean of STEAM Access and Innovation plays a pivotal instructional and strategic role at Carmen High School’s Southgate campus, an urban, non-selective public charter school serving roughly 1,100 students on Milwaukee’s south side.
Dean of Operations
The Dean of Operations (DOO) supports the execution of campus-based operational systems and leads the daily management of logistics, maintenance, procurement, food service, and health compliance.
Assistant Principal of Culture
The Assistant Principal of Culture (APC) serves as the senior culture leader of either the lower or upper school, ensuring every student feels seen, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential.
