Juneteenth youth rally and expo was held at Carmen Middle/High School of Science and Technology on Friday.
Free food, raffles, prizes and games were provided.
Organizers said it was a way to bring Milwaukee’s youth together to celebrate a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States.
“I want them to know that we do hear them. Our youth is our future, so I want them to be heard, I want them to be seen and I want them to know they are the change that will happen in society,” said organizer Tameika Lawrence, who also teaches at the school. “It is a joy to see some of our students, I just want to hug them and tell them that I love them and I miss them so much.”
